Tuning In: How to Reconnect with Your Intuition in Pregnancy and Beyond

There’s a voice inside you that knows.

She’s been there all along - a quiet hum beneath the noise, the tick-boxes, the well-meaning advice, the shoulds and musts. Your intuition.

And in pregnancy, she gets louder. Not because she wasn’t speaking before, but because this season of your life, this sacred rite of passage - invites you to come home to her.

But what if you feel disconnected? What if tuning in feels like static? Like doubt? Like you’ve forgotten how to listen?

You’re not alone. In a world that values data over deep knowing and protocols over personal truth, it’s easy to second-guess yourself. Especially when navigating a maternity system that often speaks at you, rather than holding space with you.

But the truth is: your body is wise. Your womb holds stories. And your intuition is never lost... only waiting to be remembered.

What is Intuition, Really?

Intuition is more than a gut feeling. It’s your inner compass. Your soul’s yes or no. It’s the way your body tenses when something doesn’t feel quite right… or softens when it does.

It might show up as a whisper of knowing, a dream, a flash of clarity, or even a full-body sensation. And in pregnancy, it often becomes louder - not because it suddenly appears, but because the veil between logic and instinct gets a little thinner.

You’re creating life. You are life. And life knows how to grow, how to birth, how to guide.

Why Reconnecting Matters in Pregnancy

Tuning into your intuition isn’t just some ‘woo’ suggestion. It’s foundational. When you’re connected to your inner wisdom, you:

  • Make decisions from a place of calm clarity

  • Feel more confident and less overwhelmed

  • Choose the birth path that feels right for you - whether that’s home, hospital, or the woods under a full moon

  • Experience more joy and trust in your body

  • Feel deeply connected to your baby, your partner, and yourself

This is your birth. And you deserve to walk into it feeling sovereign, informed, and in tune.

How to Begin Tuning In

If intuition feels far away right now, begin with softness. You don’t need to ‘try harder’ to hear her - you need to slow down enough to listen.

Here are some gentle ways to reconnect:

1. Get Quiet

Modern life is noisy. If your day is filled with podcasts, scrolling, appointments, and advice, your intuition might struggle to be heard. Create little pockets of silence.

It could be:

  • 5 minutes with your hand on your belly before bed

  • Switching off your phone during a walk

  • Journaling in the early morning light

Stillness is where the whispers live.

2. Use Your Body as a Barometer

Your body knows. Start noticing how different choices feel in your body.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I feel expansive or contracted?

  • Light or heavy?

  • Grounded or jittery?

These somatic clues are part of your intuitive language.

3. Journal Your Truths

Journaling isn’t about getting the ‘right’ answer. It’s about letting what’s inside move. Try prompts like:

  • “If I wasn’t worried about what others think, I would…”

  • “I know I need…”

  • “My body is asking me for…”

Let it be messy. Let it be raw. Your truth lives in those pages.

4. Anchor into Ritual

Even the smallest ritual can become an anchor. Light a candle before you connect in. Sit in the same cosy corner. Use a grounding essential oil like frankincense or rose. Let your senses signal: I’m safe to listen now.

5. Surround Yourself with Voices that Honour Yours

This one is big.

If you’re constantly surrounded by people who override your choices, mock your instincts, or speak fear into your experience, it’s hard to stay connected. Seek out spaces (like birth circles, gentle social media accounts, or trusted mentors) that nourish your intuition - not drown it out.

This is exactly why I created NE Bump Club and why I offer sacred doula support - so you can be witnessed, not managed. Heard, not hushed. Remembered, not remade.

You Already Know

There is no guru more powerful than the voice inside you. No expert is more finely attuned to what you and your baby need.

And the more you honour her, the stronger she becomes.

So let this be your invitation: To listen. To trust. To come home - to you.
