Why I’m Stepping Away from Mainstream Hypnobirthing (and what I'm creating instead!)

There’s a quiet evolution happening in my work.

For years, I’ve taught hypnobirthing and antenatal education to hundreds of families across the North East - and I’ve witnessed again and again how transformative those tools can be.

The breathing techniques. The visualisations. The understanding that birth is not something to fear, but something our bodies already know how to do.

But the more births I’ve attended (primarily at home), the more women I’ve sat beside during labour - the more I’ve realised that something deeper is calling.

The truth about “calm birth” in the system

Traditional hypnobirthing, as beautiful as it can be, was created largely to help women cope with giving birth in hospital environments... bright lights, strangers entering the room, machines, interruptions, and systems that don’t always prioritise physiology.

It’s a toolkit that helps us trick the body into feeling safe within an unfamiliar, often clinical space.

And while that absolutely has its place, I’ve come to see that for women birthing at home, or outside of the system entirely, that framework isn’t the whole story.

Because when we birth at home, we don’t have to trick the body at all.

We simply have to tune in and remember.

Birth, when it’s truly supported

In the candlelight of a living room, with familiar smells, sounds, and faces… the body doesn’t need convincing.

The parasympathetic system hums quietly. Oxytocin automatically flows. Instinct takes over.

What becomes important in preparation isn’t so much the “scripts” or “tracks,” but the inner work - the emotional clearing, the remembering of how to trust the body, the deep sense of safety that comes not from the mind but from our environment and our own self-belief.

That’s the work I’m here to guide now.

From 'hypnobirthing teacher' to experienced home birth guide

My own free birth was the moment everything changed for me.

It showed me, viscerally, that the magic doesn’t come from affirmations alone. It comes from knowing your physiology, being so connected to your baby that you move as one, and trusting the ancient intelligence that has always been within you.

That experience, combined with the years I’ve spent as a home birth doula, has shaped my new creation: Born at Home - a self-study course for women who already know they were born to birth in their own home.

This isn’t hypnobirthing “plus a few extras.”It’s a complete re-imagining of how we prepare for physiological birth at home.

You’ll still find grounding tools, breathwork, subconscious work - but they’re woven with much deeper layers: nervous system safety, emotional release, biomechanics, and sovereign self-trust.

A course for the woman who wants more than calm - she wants connection

Born at Home is for the woman who wants to:

  • Understand how her body and baby work together during undisturbed birth

  • Explore her beliefs about safety, trust, and self-authority

  • Prepare her home, her birth space, and her partner for physiological birth

  • Navigate her fears and connect with her inner knowing

  • Be guided by someone who has been there - both as a doula and as a free birth mother

Because when we prepare for birth this way, we’re not just preparing to “get through labour.” We’re preparing to be transformed by it.

The next chapter

So yes - I’m stepping away from teaching hypnobirthing in its traditional sense

Not because it doesn’t work, but because the women I serve are ready for more.

More sovereignty. More trust. More depth. More 'coming home'.

If this resonates, you can join the Born at Home waitlist below to be the first to know when it opens.

This is where birth education meets ancient wisdom - where we stop tricking the body into calm and start honouring the body’s truth.

Birth doesn’t need to be managed. It needs to be remembered.
